ABOUT STUDIO MWR
Built from the construction side. Designed with the whole home in mind.
Studio MWR is a family-built interior design and renovation studio in Sycamore, Illinois, combining thoughtful planning, real construction knowledge, and hands-on project guidance from the first conversation through the finished space.
More than a design studio.
Studio MWR grew from years spent inside real remodeling projects. We saw how easily homeowners could become responsible for connecting the designer, contractor, selections, budget, and construction details themselves. The studio was created to bring those pieces together from the beginning.
Today, we develop layouts, guide material selections, build cohesive project scopes, and manage the decisions that shape each renovation. Because our work is grounded in construction, every choice is considered not only for how it looks, but for how it fits the space, supports the budget, and works within the larger project.
That balance defines Studio MWR: considered design, practical knowledge, and steady guidance from concept through construction.
MEET CASSANDRA
Design is only one part of the job.
Studio MWR is led by Cassandra Smrz, who brings together the creative, technical, and logistical sides of each renovation.
Cassandra works directly with clients to develop layouts, define project scope, prepare estimates, guide material selections, coordinate with the construction team, and manage the decisions that carry a project from its earliest ideas through the final details.
Her involvement does not end when the design is complete. By remaining closely connected throughout construction, Cassandra helps protect the original design intent, address questions as they arise, and keep the many moving pieces aligned.
For clients, that means one consistent point of contact who understands both the vision for the space and what it will take to build it.
Cassandra lives in Sycamore with her husband, Kevin, and their three sons. For her, creating homes has always been deeply connected to how families actually live in them.
STUDIO MWR + MIDWEST REMODEL
Designed with construction in the room.
Studio MWR leads the design, planning, selections, estimating, and project coordination behind each renovation. Midwest Remodel provides the experienced construction team that turns those plans into finished spaces.
Working closely together allows construction considerations to become part of the conversation early, before materials are ordered or work begins. Layouts can be evaluated for feasibility. Design details can be coordinated with the people responsible for building them. Potential challenges can be addressed while there is still time to make thoughtful decisions.
It is a connected approach that keeps design and construction moving toward the same result.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PROJECTS
A family business in the truest sense.
Studio MWR and Midwest Remodel are built around the combined strengths of Cassandra and her siblings, Dakota, Brandon, Joshua, and Kaitlyn.
Cassandra guides the design, planning, and overall direction of each project. Dakota brings extensive field knowledge and craftsmanship to the construction side. Brandon contributes his detailed work in tile and finish carpentry, while Joshua continues developing his skills as a valued member of the field team. Kaitlyn supports client communication and the day-to-day coordination that keeps the office moving.
Each plays a different role, but the standard is shared: thoughtful work, close communication, and genuine pride in the homes entrusted to us.
Our family team is supported by an established network of licensed electricians, plumbers, drywallers, painters, and specialty trades. Many of these relationships have been built over years, with several extending across generations of local family businesses.
A well-designed renovation begins with a well-defined plan.
Our process is designed to give each decision the time, information, and attention it deserves before construction begins.
